bCandied Metrics

April 1st, 2011 No comments

For those who are interested.  How far can a 3 match game go without advertising, without reviews, without much of anything besides being basically free?

BeCandied was released as bCandied, due to Trade Marking of other software games that were to closely similar.  However I did keep the website name.

It was released with iAds built in. To test the waters of how iAds in games would function for us and to make it free.  The end users can purchase the game to de-activate the iAds, but I am sure a lot know how to de-activate them if they wanted too.

Take into account I won’t end up on the top 100 list if I don’t break 20 thousand apps downloaded.

In the first week, we had 6,200 users.  As the Application fell out of view of the app store, it was downloaded less and less.

At about 5 weeks out now. The user base grew to 9,337 users who have it installed.  The current user base (those who actually play it) is hovering at 1,800 users.  This is a 19% user base.

iAds is delivering around 10% of the ads that are requested.  I won’t speak more about it, except that I am rethinking “Free”, or adMob integration.

Our future goals here;
Add internationalization. (A Spanish update is ready to go out)
Refix the keywords (I can’t stop complaining about it). I did what most people did, keywords with spaces after comma’s, and with capital letters.  Little is spoken about this that I have seen.  Those two items make keywords non functional.

So how important is using UIKit in your application?  Well without it, adding internationalization is a huge increase in effort. Your graphic buttons will have to be hard coded with new languages.  UIKit makes it far simpler to integrate international languages.

Why would I bring up internationalization?
I have huge amount of users that are Uk, Japanese and Chinese playing bCandied.  Without analytics, I would not be able to see language preferences.  Sure they download with the app store, but some use it to learn english, so knowing language prefs is different from what app store a user downloaded from.

I use Flurry.com;
It aggregates the data collected now, so I cannot identify people individually, it just reports general information.
